About

These Excel courses were developed over the past six years, alongside (and in service of) my production work.

I started doing informal "Excel HotTips" sessions for my immediate team on our lunch breaks, using our production's spreadsheets as examples. When Covid hit, as part of a production skills-share, I created a webinar series of Excel demos with take-home exercises. The webinar was well received, but even during the pandemic the main feedback was that no-one had time for homework - production people are busy enough as it is!

I therefore expanded the material into a longer form, classroom format, where for every skills demonstration there were exercises and an opportunity to practise. I have refined the lessons and course structure over the past two years working at Studio Lambert, where I have been teaching this Excel training in-house.

Meet Your Trainer

Katherine Skingsley, Production Manager based in SE London

I have always loved numbers and problem-solving, so every time I was confronted with a production task that I felt Excel could make easier, I would stubbornly plough through online articles & forums until I had figured out how to do it. I have done "Excel consultancy" for the industry (specifically building trackers & templates for productions), but have always preferred to empower other people with the knowledge to build spreadsheets in a way that makes sense to them.

Excel can be such an asset to production management if you know how to make it work for you. The Foundation Level course provides the building blocks to the software, aiming to build confidence and competence through key skills & formulas. For my fellow nerds out there, Advanced Level gets more technical & mathematical, deconstructing complex, nested formulas to take your spreadsheets to the next level.

Ultimately I want everyone to feel like Excel is a help rather than a hindrance to their work, in the service of making some brilliant telly!
